The ninth season follows Ross and Rachel living together with baby Emma after she and Joey clear up the misdirected proposal. She soon moves back in with Joey after a fight with Ross. Monica and Chandler, inspired by Ross and Rachel, decide to conceive a child of their own. They seek medical advice after several episodes of trying for a baby, and discover that both of them are physically unable to conceive. Paul Rudd appears in the recurring role of Mike Hannigan, a new boyfriend for Phoebe. Hank Azaria returns as David "the scientist guy", a character originated in the first season, and Phoebe must choose between the two in a touching finale, deciding to choose Mike. The finale is set in Barbados, where the group goes to hear Ross give a keynote speech at a Paleontologist conference. Aisha Tyler appears as the series' first recurring black character. [A black character was added to address the criticism the show had received for lack of diversity.] Tyler plays Charlie, Joey's intelligent girlfriend. Even though Joey's attracted to her, she finds herself eventually becoming attracted to Ross, who is more her intellectual equal. After Charlie dumps Joey, Joey and Rachel's feelings for each other return. They agree to clear it with Ross first, until Joey catches Ross kissing Charlie. The finale ended with Joey and Rachel kissing.

#1	The One Where No One Proposes Joey tries to tell Rachel he didn't propose to her. Monica and Chandler try for a baby of their own.
#2	The One Where Emma Cries Rachel can't get Emma to stop crying. Chandler accidentally agrees to relocate to Tulsa, whilst Joey and Ross end up in the hospital.
#3	The One with the Pediatrician Phoebe and Joey set each other up on blind dates. Rachel takes Emma to the pediatrician - and learns that Ross is still a patient.
#4	The One with the Sharks Monica thinks Chandler is aroused by shark documentaries. Joey thinks he's already slept with the girl he's dating.
#5	The One with Phoebe's Birthday Dinner Phoebe plans a night out for her birthday, but she and Joey are the only ones on time. Chandler smokes. Guest Starring: Monique Edwards as Claudia and Brian Chenoweth as Ken
#6	The One with the Male Nanny Ross and Rachel hire a male nanny (Freddie Prinze Jr.). Chandler freaks when Monica tells him that she has met somebody else who is the funniest man she has ever met.
#7	The One with Ross's Inappropriate Song Ross finds a way to make Emma laugh - singing 'Baby Got Back'. Phoebe meets Mike's parents.
#8	The One with Rachel's Other Sister Amy (Christina Applegate), Rachel's spoiled, irresponsible sister, shows up for Thanksgiving. The gang argues over who gets custody of Emma if Ross and Rachel die. Christina Applegate won an Emmy Award for her guest-starring role in this episode.
#9	The One with Rachel's Phone Number Rachel gives a guy her phone number, but regrets it later. Joey thinks Monica is having an affair when Chandler claims that he's having to work to get out of going to a game.
#10	The One with Christmas in Tulsa Chandler, stuck in Tulsa for Christmas, quits his job when a female co-worker (Selma Blair as Wendy, 'the second prettiest girl in Oklahoma') makes a pass at him. Guest Starring: Monique Edwards as Claudia and Brian Chenoweth as Ken
#11	The One Where Rachel Goes Back to Work Rachel returns from maternity leave early when she finds out the temp hired to fill in for her wants her job permanently. Meanwhile, Phoebe works as an extra on Days of our Lives.
#12	The One with Phoebe's Rats Phoebe adopts an orphaned rat family. Ross and Rachel hire a new nanny, but Ross becomes worried when Joey starts hitting on her. Rachel continues to quarrel with Gavin, but something may be hiding behind the hostile exterior.
#13	The One Where Monica Sings Monica sings at Mike's piano bar; the patrons love her - but not because of her singing, really because they can see through her shirt, with no bra underneath.
#14	The One with the Blind Dates To get Ross and Rachel to realize they're perfect for each other, Phoebe and Joey set them up on bad blind dates.
#15	The One with the Mugging Phoebe and Ross get mugged by one of Phoebe's old friends from the street, and Ross figures out that Pheobe was the person who had mugged him when he was a teenager. Meanwhile, Chandler gets a job in an advertising internship, but feels out of place due to his age.
#16	The One with the Boob Job Chandler and Monica each ask Joey for a loan behind each others back. Chandler finds out that Monica had asked for money so Joey tells him that Monica needed the money because she was going to get breast implants. Rachel babyproofs the apartment - and ends up Joeyproofing it as well.
#17	The One with the Memorial Service Ross and Chandler post false information about each other on their college's alumni website, resulting in Chandler being posted as being gay while Ross is dead.
#18	The One with the Lottery The gang buys lottery tickets and Chandler waits for a promotion. Rachel goes all crazy when Emma says her first word.
#19	The One with Rachel's Dream Rachel develops feelings for Joey. Phoebe performs at Monica's restaurant, much to Monica's dismay. Chandler plans a weekend away in Vermont with Monica, but has to take Ross instead. Ross gets hooked on Maple candy.
#20	The One with the Soap Opera Party Joey holds a Days of our Lives party for his castmates, but doesn't want any of his friends to come. Ross gets a crush on another professor, who has only ever dated 'nobel prize' winners.
#21	The One with the Fertility Test Chandler and Monica undergo fertility testing and encounter a surprise face and Rachel goes to the massage centre where Phoebe works.
#22	The One with the Donor Chandler and Monica search for a sperm donor. Phoebe finds out about Rachel's feelings for Joey, and Ross has an interview for a conference in Barbados.
#23	The One in Barbados, Part One The gang goes to Barbados for Ross's conference. David, Phoebe's Scientist Guy, almost proposes to her - but her ex-boyfriend Mike does so before he gets the chance. Ross and Charlie find they have a lot in common. Rachel and Joey get even closer. Monica has trouble with her hair.
#24	The One in Barbados, Part Two Joey and Charlie break up; when he spies Charlie kissing Ross, he kisses Rachel. Monica and Mike play ping-pong to the distaste of Chandler and Phoebe.
